The Baca County Division of Emergency Management (BCDEM) is tasked with reducing the loss of life and property and protecting our critical infrastructure from natural and man-made disasters. The BCDEM successfully accomplishes its mission through a comprehensive, risk-based emergency management program of mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery.
In an effort to better protect our community's residents and visitors, we have developed this website to provide up-to-date emergency information (i.e., road closures, evacuations, terrorist threat levels, etc.) and what steps you should take during an emergency. Additionally, there are links to family emergency preparedness activities and information on disaster training.
Baca County is part of the Southeast Colorado All Hazards Region (SECAHR). Please visit the SE Region Link.
The Home Page (where you are) is where emergency alerts and important information will be posted.
Baca County is vulnerable to a wide variety of natural and man-made occurrences...droughts, blizzards, tornadoes, floods, wild fire, hail, severe thunderstorms, winter ice storms, as well as industrial and transportation accidents. In order to protect public safety and health, BCDEM, along with our government, private industry, non profit and other non governmental organization partners, develops emergency plans, conduct training and exercises to ensure that Baca County is prepared to respond and recover from any major emergency situation. In an effort to encourage families and individuals to enhance preparedness, much of the information on the BCDEM web site has been dedicated to help residents prepare for the unexpected emergency.
