Mission Statement

The Baca County Division of Emergency Management (BCDEM) is charged with the responsibility of reducing the loss of life and property and protecting our critical infrastructure from natural and man-made disasters. The BCDEM successfully accomplishes its mission through a comprehensive, risk-based emergency management program of mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery.

Baca County is vulnerable to a wide variety of natural and man-made occurrences...droughts, blizzards, tornadoes, floods, wild fire, hail, severe thunderstorms, winter ice storms, as well as industrial and transportation accidents. In order to protect public safety and health, BCDEM, along with Town of Springfield, Town of Walsh, Town of Campo, Town of Two Buttes, Town of Pritchett and Southeast Colorado Hospital develops emergency plans, and conducts training and exercises to ensure that Baca County is prepared to respond and recover from any major emergency situation. In an effort to encourage families and individuals to enhance preparedness, much of the information on the BCDEM web site has been dedicated to help residents prepare for the unexpected emergency.

ESSENTIALS OF PUBLIC SAFETY CUSTOMER SERVICE

  • Our essential mission and number one priority is to deliver the best possible service to our customers

  • Always be nice - treat everyone with respect, kindness, patience and consideration

  • Always attempt to execute a standard problem solving outcome; quick/effective/skillful/safe/caring/managed

  • Regard everyone as a customer

  • Consider how you and what you are doing looks to others

  • Don't disqualify the customer with your qualifications

  • Basic organizational behavior must become customer centered

  • We must continually improve our customer service performance

PUBLIC SAFETY EMPOWERMENT

    Ask yourself:

  • Is it the right thing for the customer?

  • Is it the right thing for our department?

  • Is it legal, ethical, and nice?

  • Is it safe?

  • Is it on your organizational level?

  • Is it something you are willing to be accountable for?

  • Is it consistent with our department's values and policies?

...if the answer is yes to all of these questions, don't ask for permission, JUST DO IT.
